The number one reason I recommend doing a first look

Considering a first look? Learn how this decision can create more time for photos, reduce stress, and enhance your wedding day experience—without taking away from the emotional aisle moment.

Okay, I’ll admit it — I’m a traditional girly at heart when it comes to the first look. There’s something undeniably magical about seeing your partner for the first time as you walk down the aisle. That genuine, emotional moment is one of my absolute favourites to capture. So, it’s hard for me to say this, but hear me out: doing a first look can significantly improve the flow of your day and create so much more time and space for photos that include you and your partner.

More time for photos, less stress for you

The number one reason I recommend doing a first look is simple: it gives you more time. Without a first look, all of your couples portraits, family formals, and wedding party photos have to happen during the short window between your ceremony and reception. That’s a lot to squeeze in! And trust me, cramming it all into that one-hour cocktail hour can feel extremely rushed, and result in fewer photos in the final gallery that include both you and your partner.

With a first look, you get to see your partner earlier in the day and take your time with those intimate portraits. No racing against the clock, no stress about missing cocktail hour, and no sacrificing photos you’ll wish you had later. It’s a game-changer for your timeline.

Enjoy your cocktail hour

After your ceremony, you’ll actually get to join your guests for cocktail hour instead of spending it entirely on photos. That means more time for hugs, laughs, and champagne toasts with the people you love.

Capture more genuine moments

Since you’re not on a strict timeline crunch, we can take advantage of different backdrops and lighting for your portraits. You’ll also have more space to relax and be yourselves, which results in candid, authentic moments that truly reflect your relationship.

What about the aisle moment?

If you’re worried that a first look will take away from the moment you walk down the aisle, you’re not alone. But I promise — it won’t. That walk is still filled with so much anticipation, emotion, and joy. Even couples who choose a first look often find themselves just as emotional when it’s time for the ceremony.
In fact, I've heard from plenty of couples that doing a first look actually made the aisle walk moment even more enjoyable! When you remove the nerves and get to spend some quality time with your partner earlier on in your wedding day, this moment can feel much more relaxed and memorable.

Still torn?

At the end of the day, it’s all about what feels right for you. If you’ve always dreamed of the classic aisle reveal, that’s absolutely valid — and I’ll be right there capturing every tear and smile. But if you’re open to creating a more relaxed, intentional timeline with space to soak it all in, a first look is definitely worth considering.

No matter what you choose, I’d love to capture those once-in-a-lifetime moments for you. Let’s chat about your day and create a plan that makes it everything you’ve imagined!
